There’s something even worse—when some pet owners decide that harming their pets isn’t enough, they consider ending their lives. This is why it’s not uncommon for some to request euthanasia for their dogs.
Still, amidst the bleakness, there’s always a glimmer of hope, thanks to kind-hearted individuals who step up at just the right moment.
This was the case when two elderly pooches in California were rescued by a compassionate soul. Sadly, the harm they had faced was so severe that not all of them could escape tragedy.
Two Dogs in Need
Meet Morticia and Gomez, two elderly dogs who suffered long-term neglect from their owners. But that wasn’t the end of their ordeal. These owners decided to end these dogs’ lives, opting for euthanasia.
Just when it seemed hopeless for these two dogs, a Good Samaritan intervened and gave them another shot at life. They were taken to the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California. Staff members were heartbroken by the dogs’ condition and shared their story on TikTok via @valleyanimalcenter.

Yet, these dedicated folks refused to let go of them, touched by the flicker of hope still visible in the dogs’ eyes and the movement of their wagging tails.
They made it their mission to ensure that the remaining years for these dogs would be filled with care and happiness.
Gomez’s Legacy
After arriving at the Fresno shelter, the team immediately started providing the care and attention these dogs needed for recovery.
Initially, Gomez seemed healthier than Morticia, yet, soon after, he began showing signs of illness. At first, he appeared to have a mild cough, but it turned out to be much more serious.
He suffered from trauma to his trachea, likely due to previous mistreatment. The shelter staff went all out trying to help him, but sadly, their efforts weren’t enough.
The staff had to face the painful reality of losing Gomez, yet another unfortunate victim of human cruelty. They were both heartbroken and angry at those responsible for his condition.
However, they channeled their anger into a positive resolve to ensure Morticia would not experience a similar fate.
Gomez will always hold a special place in their hearts, serving as an ongoing reminder of the heartbreak that results from human cruelty. His memory will fuel their dedication to helping other animals in need.
