Being a rescuer can be incredibly fulfilling, but it also comes with moments that break your heart.

Faith Easdale stumbled upon a small puppy sitting near a bustling road, dressed in a little pink outfit.

Faith assumed the pup had an owner and was simply waiting for them to pick her up. However, after passing by the same road days later and seeing the pup in the exact spot, she grew concerned.

Never-Ending Wait

This precious pup seemed unwilling to leave because she believed her family might have just forgotten her and would soon return to rescue her.

Her head hung low, with a clear sadness painted on her face.

Faith, part of the California-based rescue group Dream Fetchers, felt compelled to help the tiny dog still dressed in her little outfit.

“I thought, ‘Oh no, poor little baby, sitting and waiting. So I rushed out there and didn’t see her. I always panic — praying they found [a] safe haven somewhere, but I continued to search. My friend met me and we started asking people in the area,” she shared in a Facebook post.

Locals informed Faith that the pup had been there for a while, occasionally seeking shelter in bushes whenever she grew afraid.

Eventually, after a thorough search, Faith managed to locate the small dog.

“I walked quietly and there she was, the saddest sight. We very quietly set baby gates around and I went in slowly. She was so scared,” Easdale explained.

Spending time with her, Faith realized how sweet the dog was and quickly managed to gain her trust.

“Once I got her settled, she actually crawled in my lap and gave me the sweetest kisses. [I] took off that filthy dress, gave her a nice dinner and soft blanket,” Faith described.

Start Of Something New

Upon reaching home, Faith treated the pup to a bubble bath and checked her over for any glaring health issues.

Apart from having a coat full of tangles, the pup was in good health. Faith also checked for any identification, but without a collar or microchip, it was unclear if she had been abandoned.

“We rarely know the story. Usually, if there is an owner, they would have shown up by now. The area wasn’t good where she was sitting and waiting,” Faith told The Dodo.

The following day, Faith took the pup for a pampering session, and upon picking her up afterward, she could hardly recognize her! The transformation was remarkable.

Faith named her Sugar, marking the beginning of her new journey.

“I feel like this is the turning point so many times — like a little Cinderella story. Giving them a second chance is what keeps us doing this. Keeps pushing, hoping for better days,” Faith reflected in a Facebook post.

Sugar is now on the lookout for a loving foster home where she can unwind and adjust. Faith is confident she’ll eventually find a permanent loving family without any trouble.
