Rescue team discovers shivering dog family stranded in the rain on the roadside

In Mason County, Washington, a mother dog and her two pups found themselves alone and seeking help while wandering aimlessly near Lake Trask.

With the rain pouring down, the dog family shivered, desperately trying to find a dry spot to take refuge.

Drenched and cold to the bone, these poor pups held onto the hope that someone with a big heart would come to their aid and lead them to safety.

Help Arrives for the Struggling Dogs

Shelton Animal Control received the distress call about the three dogs in peril and got in touch with Caryn, a dedicated volunteer linked with the Humane Society of Mason County in Belfair, Washington.

Caryn enlisted the expertise of a seasoned dog trapper named D.D. Ponder, and together, they set out to save these animals.

Their rescue mission began under the cover of darkness. After surveying the surroundings, they placed traps filled with tempting snacks around the area.

On spotting the weary mother and her puppies, the rescuers were moved with empathy, imagining the helplessness the dogs felt.

The team focused on building a connection with the dogs.

Puppies Parker and Petey, curious little fellows, soon trusted the humans and were gently taken into safety.

The mother dog, later named Laila, remained cautious, steering clear of the traps.

Attempts were made to entice Laila using her pups, but she stayed reluctant to step into the crate.

Laila approached her little ones, ensuring their safety while resisting the draw of the trap.

A lack of appetite made Laila dismiss the chicken offered by the rescuers.

After an extensive effort to secure her, Caryn and D.D. Ponder had to return home to tend to their own pets.

Before leaving, they enlisted the help of a kindly local named Pete to keep an eye on the dog family.

Pete stepped in, offering some ham to Laila. Seeing its appeal, he placed ham pieces in the crate.

The appealing treats finally led Laila to enter the trap, ensuring her safety at last!

A Bright Future Awaits

The Humane Society of Mason County welcomed them and provided care.

The dogs were weary but prepared to embark on a new, promising chapter.

“After 20 hours, with volunteers vigilantly watching day and night, mom and her pups were finally secured! They were drained but eager for a better life,” shared the rescue in a Facebook post.

Both Laila and her puppies found comfort and relief in their new foster environment.

The fosters gave them space to relax and showered them with affection.

The dogs quickly adjusted and began to enjoy the warmth and safety of a real home.

Their next big adventure is to find loving, forever families.

Little Parker has already been admired by a potential family who wants to take him home.

Petey is still looking for his perfect match, and Laila will be ready for adoption soon.

It is the hope that all three will soon embark on a joyful, love-filled journey. They truly deserve it!
