Stumbling upon an abandoned dog is never a heartwarming experience, and finding an entire family of them? That’s even tougher.
Dogs without someone to look after them or a roof over their heads often struggle to survive. Those who do make it usually embark on a long journey of recovery once help arrives.
This was precisely the situation for a doggie family in a Southern California neighborhood. A passerby was startled when she heard the unmistakable sound of puppies crying from a flowerbed. Upon closer inspection, she discovered five tiny, defenseless pups nestled among the plants.
Puppies Abandoned in the Bushes, Kept Safe by Their Mother
The passerby couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted puppies nestled in a flowerbed, clearly unable to get there by themselves. Someone had evidently left them there.
Despite the abandonment, the puppies were in surprisingly good shape, thanks to their dedicated mama, who stood guard over them, ensuring their safety.
The woman attempted to assist the family, but the mother dog was extremely protective, growling and barking to keep her at bay.
Realizing she needed help, the woman reached out to Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California.
Rescue Gets Tricky
Hall rushed over as soon as she got the call about this abandoned furry family. Witnessing the scene, she felt heartbroken and couldn’t comprehend why someone would leave such an adorable family of pups behind.
“I was in disbelief when I saw them. The mother dog was fiercely protective, and with the strong winds blowing, I could tell the family was chilled,” Hall recalled.
Faced with the mom’s aggression, Hall decided to proceed with caution. She managed to scoop up the puppies, one at a time, into a crate. Now it was time to capture the mother, which proved to be a challenge.
Hall changed tactics and arranged a food-baited humane trap, positioning it right next to the puppies’ crate, hoping the mom would enter.
Eventually, her plan worked, and the protective mother took the bait.
Safe and Sound at Last
Once the mother dog was reunited with her puppies in Hall’s car, she instantly calmed down.
“After releasing her from the trap, she melted into my hands, exhausted. She finally didn’t have to be brave; with her family safe, she could just relax,” shared Suzette on her Facebook page.
The reunion was incredibly heartwarming! The mom first gazed at her puppies, then began to sniff and shower them with affection.
Hall took them to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine for medical care and further examination, where they quickly won the hearts of the staff.
No longer fearful or alone, the puppies and their mom were content and relaxed in the caring environment of the hospital.
On the Path to Adoption
The mother, now known as Bambi, along with her five pups, were moved to a foster home. The puppies are growing stronger each day, eagerly anticipating the arrival of a loving family ready to adopt them into their forever homes.
Bambi, once a wary and defensive dog, has transformed thanks to the affection and care from her foster family.
Someday, Bambi will find the loving home she deserves, where she’ll continue to be cherished for the wonderful dog she is. Here’s hoping that day comes soon!
