It’s not every day that you stumble upon a massive hole in the vines covering your backyard fence. However, that’s exactly what surprised a couple in Cincinnati, Ohio one day.
Drew Smith and Ruthie Johnson Smith noticed a peculiar gap in their lush plant-covered fence. Curious and baffled, they decided to keep an eye on it over the next few days.
After some time observing, they discovered the cause of the vine removal, and what they learned left them beaming with delight.
The Most Adorable Discovery
The mystery vine remover turned out to be their youthful pup, Caamp. He wasn’t wrecking the foliage for no reason, which is what delighted Ruthie and Drew the most.
The culprit: a new neighbor, an elderly dog named Owen, had recently moved next door. Caamp had a special reason for clearing the vines—he and Owen really hit it off from their very first meeting and didn’t want anything to come between them. Realizing they couldn’t do much about the fence, they tackled the vines and eventually achieved their goal.
From then on, every day without fail, they met over the fence, bonding more and more each day. From strangers, Caamp and Owen became the best of buddies.
The heartwarming scene inspired Drew and Ruthie to film one of these encounters and share it with the world on Instagram via their account, @caampstagram.
Aware that the video would likely gather interest, the Smiths were blown away by the overwhelming response. Many people sought updates, with reactions like, “Forget the vines! Take the fence down!” and, “I need an update, please let them play.”
A Meeting That Touched Hearts
Encouraged by the attention their video received, Drew and Ruthie showed the clip to their neighbors, Owen’s family. They were over the moon, and everyone agreed to arrange a playdate for the dogs without a fence blocking them.
The reunion was as sweet as you’d imagine—both dogs were finally able to sniff each other out and frolic freely.
Despite the age difference, their energies perfectly matched, and Owen, in particular, was thrilled to meet his friend on the other side of that fence.
“Owen had his helicopter tail in full swing,” Drew told The Dodo. “You could tell he recognized Caamp; after all, they’d been pals through the fence! Owen was instantly animated.”
This charming canine duo not only created a unique bond but also brought two sets of human neighbors closer together. “It’s been a joy because our dogs’ friendship has sparked one between us humans too,” Drew shared.
Life has a funny way of bringing people (and pups) together, and sometimes it takes our furry companions to find friendship where we didn’t expect to see it.
