Family adopts ‘calm’ puppy, discovers they’re in for a wild surprise

After living with many dogs over the years, I’ve picked up some handy tips for selecting a new furry friend.

One thing I’ve realized is that the idea of a quiet, easy-going dog that lounges around all day is more fantasy than reality.

Every dog is both adorable and a bundle of energy. One moment they’re snuggling with you, and the next they’re racing around the house.

When a woman welcomed a Golden Retriever named Ellie into her life, she had no clue what adventures lay ahead. Needless to say, she found herself pleasantly astonished.

Ellie the ‘Chill’ Pup

Once Ellie was settled into her new home, her world was turned upside down. She enjoyed being with her family, spending loads of quality time together.

As Ellie grew, it became evident that the once ‘calm’ pup wasn’t exactly the couch potato she’d been expected to be.

To her family’s surprise, Ellie was full of life and excitement, quite the opposite of what they anticipated.

Her family quickly realized that while Ellie did love her naps and relaxation, there were plenty of times she wasn’t doing either.

Instead, she would zip around the house, chewing on anything she could find. Her owners felt a bit hoodwinked, as Ellie clearly wasn’t the mellow dog they had expected.

At one point, Ellie’s mom decided to capture one of these hilarious zoomie sessions on video, so she could preserve the memory.

Puppy Zoomies Are Universal

With her proof on tape, Ellie’s mom shared the fun video on TikTok with a simple caption: “She tricked us…”

Someone remarked, “My Golden is 18 months now, so basically I have a little velociraptor running around the house.”

Apparently, it’s a common Golden Retriever trait—they hardly ever mellow out, and here was all the evidence anyone needed.

Another chimed in with, “Those energetic zoomies are actually a sign she’s super happy. It’s one of the best compliments a pup can give. They’re amazing.”

This is something that dog owners might sometimes overlook. If your pup is truly happy at home, zoomies are just their way of showing it.

Someone else commented, “You chose the quiet puppy, but you made her a happy dog, and now she’s got the zoomies! Been there for the first three years with our lab…”

It’s just a simple truth that this is how many dogs express themselves. Regardless of their temperament, they all enjoy running around and playing with someone they love.

Ellie’s adorable races through the house caught a lot of eyes on TikTok, and I think seeing a joyful dog like Ellie is something we can all relate to and enjoy. She’s genuinely a treat to watch.
