Working as an animal control officer often involves heart-wrenching moments—especially when stumbling across pets in dire circumstances.
During a routine patrol for stray dogs in Texas, one officer came upon a dog named Pixie.
Poor Pixie was found mercilessly tethered to a pole by her previous caregivers, isolated from civilization. The little pup was left languishing on the ground, her ribs apparent through her skin.
The unfortunate reality was that she was just days away from facing her demise…
No Sustenance in Sight
Pixie’s owners left her in an extremely cruel situation. She had nowhere to hide from lurking dangers and was left with absolutely no nourishment or water.
When the officer discovered her, she appeared as nothing more than a skeletal frame of a dog.
The officer acted quickly to save her, arriving just in the nick of time!
“This sweet gal was found tied up with no food or water. We’re so grateful the dedicated animal control officer found her when they did, otherwise, it might have been too late,” shared Brizzee Animal Rescue on their social media.
Pixie’s fate caught the attention of Emily and Mike Brizzee, the compassionate individuals running Brizzee Animal Rescue in Haslet, Texas. They couldn’t resist pulling Pixie into their care. Understanding her ordeal, they realized a typical shelter environment wouldn’t aid her recovery.
And so, Pixie’s journey to recovery began!
Set up in a cozy home, Pixie was finally awarded a second chance.
For what seemed like the first time ever, she was introduced to the warmth of love.
On the Road to Finding Her Perfect Companion
Rebuilding Pixie’s trust in people took time and care. Emily, along with her family, put in significant effort to make Pixie feel secure and loved.
Surrounded by space to roam and showered with gentle affection, Pixie gradually emerged from her shell, letting her true personality shine.
As she learned to trust her caretakers, she began to return their kindness with affectionate gestures like sweet kisses. She enjoyed cuddles, wagging her tail joyfully and wore a bright smile especially around Emily and Mike. Pixie especially took to Brody, the couple’s son, and formed a special bond with him.
Nowadays, she sleeps with Brody every night, basking in a newfound sense of security.
“She started trusting us and opened her heart. She’s grown really close to our 8-year-old son and sleeps with him, feeling safe,” Emily shared with The Dodo.
Pixie continues to receive unwavering support from her rescuers. They’ll ensure she leaves her anxieties in the past before she seeks out her forever family.
For now, Pixie cherishes having humans she can rely on. She’s learned that there are kind-hearted people and eagerly anticipates a future filled with love and security!
