When people decide they can’t keep their puppies anymore, the usual route is to hand them over to a shelter to make them somebody else’s responsibility.
But unfortunately, it’s not always that straightforward. Sometimes, shelters are full to the brim, leaving people without choices. Some resort to heartlessly abandoning the puppies on the streets, expecting them to fend for themselves until help arrives.
This story highlights one such heartbreaking incident—a bunch of tiny puppies were dumped in the middle of nowhere, left to face the world alone.
What’s Inside the Box?
On a blistering day, a resident from Anson County, North Carolina, stumbled upon a green box at the wooded area’s boundary.
Curious, the resident took a closer look and discovered five tiny puppies crammed inside the box.
The puppies were abandoned under the scorching sun, meaning they wouldn’t have had long without a savior.
These pups were so tiny and helpless they couldn’t escape on their own, so they needed a hero. Fortunately, the resident acted quickly, gathering the puppies into a crate and providing them with food and water.
Once the puppies had regained their strength, the resident resolved to find them help.
A Fresh Start for the Puppies
The puppies were then taken to the Rescue Dogs Rock NYC vet partner in North Carolina for care.
Jackie O’Sullivan shared with The Dodo: They were frail, dehydrated, with a peculiar odor. One wasn’t doing very well, raising fears of parvo, but following fluids, baths, and nutritious meals, all five are thankfully recovering.
The pups, estimated to be just 6 weeks old, were named Sullivan, Snoopy, Sanders, Simon, and Sassafrass at the vet.
They underwent thorough checkups, got their vaccinations and fluids, and received a deworming treatment. Over time, they began to show signs of improvement.
O’Sullivan remarked: The pups are fortunate to have been discovered in the nick of time.
Once they were healthy, the pups moved to foster care, where they awaited adoption. Although we don’t know for sure if they’ve been adopted, it’s likely that these cuties have found their forever homes by now.
