Meet Nova, an extraordinary dog. Despite her difficult beginnings, she yearned for a normal life. Instead, she was left behind by her owner with a ‘free’ sign on her kennel for passersby to see.
It’s heart-wrenching to think someone would abandon her like this, especially on a bustling highway.
Thankfully, Nova’s luck changed when someone noticed her and couldn’t just turn away. This kind-hearted individual shared her story online, hoping that a rescue group would come to the rescue.
Madison Nygard, a dedicated volunteer with the Pawfect Match Rescue in North Carolina, responded.
She explained to People magazine, “I was on my way as soon as I read the post. I reached Nova before an hour had passed.“
Upon arrival, she was deeply troubled by the sign left on the kennel, wondering what kind of person could do such a thing.
Starting Fresh for Nova
After a brief chat with animal control officers on-site, Nygard made the choice to give Nova the support she needed.
She took her to a veterinary clinic in North Carolina for a comprehensive checkup and any necessary medical care.
She shared, “I wanted to bring her home to ensure she had a full belly and was under close watch.“
While under Nygard’s care, Nova found solace and joy, making the most of her newfound safety to express gratitude.
Nova quickly bonded with everyone in the household, and Nygard was thrilled to see her thriving after such hardship.
Though she loved her time there, Nygard understood that a forever home was the ultimate goal, and worked to find suitable adopters.
The adoption process will take some time, but until then, Nova is enjoying life in a warm and loving home, full of treats, toys, and a caring family.
