During a casual stroll by the canal in Price, Utah, a couple came across some unusual sounds emanating from the water.
As they moved closer for a better look, they noticed a fluffy creature struggling along the canal’s edge.
Seeing what it was, they couldn’t believe their eyes.
A Canine Crisis
There was a small dog in distress that had ended up in the canal, struggling to climb out.
The area was unfortunately enclosed by a fence topped with barbed wire, making it impossible for the couple to reach the pup directly. Determined to help, they didn’t hesitate to call the local police, asking for assistance.
Upon receiving the call about the emergency, Captain Brandon Ratcliffe immediately headed over to help.
When Captain Brandon arrived, he saw the pup, Chica, barking and panting, desperately trying to hang on to the bank.
“She was making noises that suggested she was struggling to breathe or had water in her lungs. Yet, I climbed the fence and jumped over the barbed wire while Officer Tapia managed to unlock the gate further along the canal on the opposite side. Officer Tapia was ready to catch her if she slipped away”, explained Captain Brandon.
Captain Brandon quickly scooped up Chica and brought her to safety.
Grateful for being rescued, Chica didn’t want to be set down on the ground and clung to her rescuer.
Warm Welcomes Await
Initially planning to take Chica to an animal shelter, Captain Brandon had second thoughts.
He decided instead to bring her home for a good bath and cleanup.
Once she was spruced up, he brought Chica to meet the team at the police department, where she quickly won everyone’s hearts with her charm. It wasn’t long before Chica felt right at home among her new friends.
After enjoying some time with her newfound pals, Chica’s trip to the vet revealed she had a microchip.
Her owner was quickly reached out to and shared how she’d been searching frantically for Chica all morning. She expressed her deepest gratitude towards Captain Brandon for rescuing her beloved dog.
The owner offered a reward to the couple who found Chica, but I let her know that their only concern was Chica’s well-being.
In Closing
I couldn’t be more thankful to Captain Brandon for stepping up to help when duty called.
Chica, your determination to return left me inspired that sticking with it pays off. Well done, Chica!
